SLAVE TRADE STATEMENT
The Modern Slavery Act 2015 was introduced to help eradicate slavery, forced labour, and human trafficking in companies.
We recognise that, while we are a UK-based business, modern slavery is a complex, global issue which affects the healthcare sector. The two principal areas of focus in our business are at front-line level, to safeguard patients, colleagues and others who come through our facilities, and in our supply chain.
This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 by Castle of Mercy healthcare Ltd
This statement sets out actions taken by our company to understand and mitigate potential modern slavery risks related to our business and to put in place steps that are aimed at ensuring there is no slavery or human trafficking either in our own business or in our supply chain.
Our ’s modern slavery statement is based on the definitions set out in the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and is guided by the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the conventions of the International Labour Organisation particularly relating to forced or compulsory labour.
Our Business
Castle Mercy Healthcare Services is an Aylesbury-based specialist-supported living and home care organisation that serves neighbouring counties. Despite the fact that the company is new, the management team has extensive experience in both the public and private healthcare sectors, spanning over 20 years
Robust processes are put into place to identify and mitigate areas of risk including modern slavery and human trafficking. With dedicated internal resource we are able to manage and develop our principles that govern all areas of risk while ensuring we have a training and awareness framework to mitigate modern slavery and human trafficking.
Our Policies
In our Code of Conduct for Business Partners, Castle takes a zero-tolerance approach to child labour and young workers, forced labour and modern slavery. Business partners should commit to adhering to the requirements, principles and standards set out in our Code of Conduct for Business Partners and communicate these to their employees and business partners.
If any business partner is found to be in breach of the principles of the Code of Conduct for Business Partners, cannot adhere to it in its entirety, or conducts business in a manner that conflicts with our policies, Castle reserves all of its rights, including its right to review the business relationship with the business partner and take appropriate action such as the termination of the contractual relationship.

Our aim is to prevent opportunities for modern slavery (in whatever form) to occur within our businesses or supply chain. Therefore, with the above sentiment in mind, this reflects our corporate value on the prevention of modern slavery and human trafficking. We expect all staff, stakeholders, customers and suppliers to absorb and follow the values herein.

Our commitment to combat modern slavery involves:
- Transparency in our own business and in our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chains and consistent with our disclosure obligations under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
- Transparency from our contractors, suppliers and other business partners.
- All employees having an obligation to remain aware of our procedures to help in the identification and prevention of modern slavery
and to conduct business in such a manner as to prevent the opportunity for and incidence of modern slavery.
Ensuring robust recruitment screening and onboarding procedures to actively mitigate the risk of engaging candidates who may be victims of modern slavery. This includes a thorough compliance process, verifying professional credentials, conducting comprehensive reference checks, and other meticulous screenings. Our commitment extends to aligning staffing choices with client preferences, ensuring seamless integration and dedication to organisational needs.
To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains, Castle of Mercy provides information briefings and comprehensive training as part of our onboarding process. The Company is actively working towards ensuring that all client agreements comprehensively cover the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking.
Liaising with our suppliers both to convey to them our Anti-Slavery Policy and to gain an understanding of the measures taken by them to ensure modern slavery is not occurring in their businesses.
OUR ATTITUDE TO MODERN SLAVERY IS: ZERO TOLERANCE
The directors of the company have overall responsibility for this policy, its zero-tolerance position and its implementation, which will be achieved by cascading it down to stakeholders, subsidiaries, customers, suppliers and staff. All such people are encouraged to raise (whether with HR, Senior Management, Directors or other points of contact within the group) concerns about suspected modern slavery associated with the business or its stakeholders. Such concerns can be in respect of:
- Subsidiaries/entities who wish to do business with us or those who already have a business relationship with us.
- Anyone suspected of seeking to exploit another in a way which could amount to modern slavery.
- Any approach from a person acting on behalf of Castle of mercy or one of our businesses who has invited you to participate in acts which
could result in offences under the Modern Slavery Act.
We also encourage members of the public to contact a director, in confidence, to raise any concern, issue or suspicion of modern slavery in any part of our business.
We operate a whistleblowing policy, ensuring that all employees can raise concerns without fear of reprisals, covering treatment of colleagues, candidates, practices within our business, or clients/supply chain. We will support anyone who raises genuine concerns in good faith under this policy, even if they turn out to be mistaken. We are committed to ensuring no one suffers any detrimental treatment as a result of reporting, in good faith, their suspicion that modern slavery of whatever form is or may be taking place in any part of us own business or in any of our supply chains.
The Company’s Directors will regularly review and, if necessary, amend this policy to ensure Due Diligence Castle will continue to review and improve its practices to identify and eliminate potential modern slavery or human trafficking from our business, which includes further development of our Third-Party Risk Management Framework.
Reporting and investigating concerns
Castle employees, business partners and other third parties may raise compliance concerns including those related to modern slavery. All reports will be taken seriously and managed sensitively via a dedicated, supportive and impartial process. Any concerns should be raised either with the respective Castle main contact or via the Speak Up hotline.
Castle will investigate all reports of possible misconduct and any unethical, illegal or inappropriate activity. For the financial year ended 4th October 2024 no reports have been received in relation to modern slavery or human trafficking.
Approval process
This statement has been prepared after consulting with the key relevant functions which collaborate to deliver our labour rights risk identification, assessment and management processes for our operations and supply chain.
